Research Interests

Our planet displays an enormous biodiversity of living forms. Photosynthetic eukaryotes (e.g., algae and plants), comprise a majority of this species richness. In total, there are about ten different kinds of photosynthetic organelles (plastids). The question of when and how these plastids originated is a fundamental issue in biology. My research interests focus on these important questions as below,

  • Evolution of the Chromist Plastids
  • Divergence Time Estimation using a Molecular Clock
  • Evolution of the Dinoflagellate Plastids
  • Red and Brown Algal Molecular Phylogenies and Biodiversity
