Roy J. Carver Center for Comparative Genomics
The center is located within the Department of Biology and supports research and training of graduate and undergraduate students.
Our mission is to promote the understanding of biological diversity through research with a specific emphasis on molecular and population
level processes, and through comparative analysis of genes and genomes. Faculty members who study a broad range of molecular evolution topics
are Principal Investigators in the Center. The center also serves the department as a DNA sequencing and microarray facility and also provides
quantitative Real-Time PCR services.
Central Microscopy Research Facility
The Central Microscopy Research Facility (CMRF) is a state-of-the-art resource located on the University of Iowa campus
in the Eckstein Medical Research Building
Departmental Bioimaging Facility
The bioimaging facility consists of two Leica fluorescence microscopes with attached digital cameras and a calcium ratio imaging system
for examining calcium ion flux across cell membranes. Our facility is available for student use when appropriate equipment is not available in other
laboratories. We recently obtained funding to purchase a state-of-the-art laser confocal microscope for our newly renovated space as well as funding
to upgrade the cameras on our other systems.
HealthNet - Hardin Library for the Health Sciences
Healthnet is an information system which provides campus-wide access to references to journal articles in Medline
and other health related databases. The network is administered by the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences
On-Line Ordering for Biologists and Biochemists
An index of on-line catalogs of laboratory supplies, provided by such companies as Promega, New England Biolabs, Fisher Scientific,
Millipore, etc. This index is provided by the Molecular Biology Computational Resource (MBCR) at the Baylor College of Medicine.
PubMed
A service of the National Library of Medicine. It provides access to over 12 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid 1960's and
additional life science journals.
