Welcome to the Ting Laboratory for molecular anthropology. Our research combines molecular and field-based methods to investigate evolutionary processes responsible for patterns of modern primate diversity. The goal is to provide an improved understanding of primate evolution, ecology, biogeography, and to designate conservation priorities for endangered populations.
We are housed in the Roy J. Carver Center for Comparative Genomics at the University of Iowa. Our current focus is on Old World rainforest taxa, and ongoing research projects include the molecular systematics of the Colobinae (leaf-eating monkeys), designating conservation priorities for the endangered red colobus group, and assessing the impact of human disturbance on primate communities in the Gulf of Guinea (West Central Africa) and Udzungwa Mountains (Tanzania, East Africa).
