Reporting concerns and other resources related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

If you are a student, staff, or faculty, and have a concern related to DEI, there are many resources available to you.

Biology Department Executive Officer (DEO): Dr. Tina Tootle

Biology Director of Graduate Studies (DGS): Dr. Bryan Phillips

Biology Director of Undergraduate Studies (UGS): Dr. Erin Irish

The University of Iowa's office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (EOD) provides an online form to report concerns related to DEI. This form is used to log concerns and begin conversations on how to deal with issues. It is not the same as a formal complaint, though it can be the first step toward one.

The Office of the Ombudsperson provides confidential advice, information, and facilitation services for all number of issues. See their "How We Can Help" page for more information. This resource is available for all university-affiliated persons, including faculty, students, and staff.

Helping Undergraduate Students in Distress: General list of resources for undergraduate students; includes links to the campus inclusion team, university counseling resources, and contact information for the Office of the Dean of Students.

For graduate students, please refer to the Graduate College's page for information related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The Graduate College also offers a myriad of other resources related to DEI, including resources for graduate students who are parents and lists of scholarships and awards for current and former graduate students.

Note: The UI protects reporters of DEI concerns (and all other forms of misconduct) against retaliation. Read the policy.

Members of the Department of Biology DEI advisory committee curate this list of resources. All faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students are invited and encouraged to share additional resources. Send yours to biology@uiowa.edu.
